The project

The RiOSM project involves the development of an interoperable artificial intelligence (AI)-based platform, integrated with clinical, laboratory, psychological, behavioural and molecular data. The project will also develop bioinformatics pipelines for the construction of a multi-omics risk score, and the use nanodevices based on plant-derived bioactive compounds, aimed at modulating the chronic inflammation associated with obesity, will be validated.
The project will also develop bioinformatics pipelines for the construction of a multi-omics risk score, and the use nanodevices based on plant-derived bioactive compounds, aimed at modulating the chronic inflammation associated with obesity, will be validated.
The project represents a high-impact investment in healthcare innovation, biotechnology and digital technologies, consistent with the objectives of the STEP Regulation in the fields of digital technologies, deep-tech and biotechnology.
The RiOSM platform will be created as an advanced Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) enhanced by Machine Learning and Deep Learning algorithms, capable of supporting clinical decision-making regarding the most appropriate therapeutic option among pharmacological treatment, GLP-1 Receptor agonist therapy or bariatric surgery. The system will integrate anthropometric, clinical, psychological, behavioural and biological data collected through a prospective, longitudinal observational study on at least 300 patients with obesity with different levels of clinical complexity.

Results

The expected results of the RiOSM project include the creation of an advanced Clinical Decision Support platform for the personalised management of severe obesity, capable of generating clinically validated risk predictions and supporting therapeutic decision-making in real time. The system will be able to estimate the risk of complications, predict treatment adherence and support personalised treatment selection between pharmacological and surgical interventions through high-predictive-performance Artificial Intelligence models.
The project will also enable the creation of a highly specialised clinical-digital centre for the multidisciplinary management of obesity and related metabolic diseases, with significant substantial clinical and healthcare benefits in terms of improved patient quality of life, reduced hospitalisations and optimised healthcare resources.
