The project

The ProBioEtica project, funded under the call "Accordi per l'Innovazione – Smart Factory, Agrifood, Life Sciences" (2019), was designed to develop an innovative plant-based nutraceutical intended to support the prevention of high-prevalence chronic conditions, including type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity, metabolic disorders, renal diseases and coeliac disease. The project integrated industrial research and experimental development activities, with particular attention to process and product innovation. In parallel with the formulation of the nutraceutical, production technologies were optimised and organic farming supply chains were strengthened, with the aim of ensuring high standards of quality, traceability and sustainability of the raw materials.
The multidisciplinary approach involved academic partners and research centres for the scientific validation of the nutraceutical formulation through preclinical and clinical studies. ] The project resulted in the project resulted in the development of an advanced phytocomplex based on six selected plant matrices and microencapsulated hemp oil, developed to ensure safety, tolerability and support for metabolic and gastrointestinal health.

Results

The ProBioEtica project led to the development of an innovative plant-based nutraceutical phytocomplex, composed of six selected botanical matrices and microencapsulated hemp oil, obtained exclusively from organic raw materials free from pesticides and synthetic chemical fertilisers.
The research and experimental activities made it possible to validate the safety and tolerability profile of the product, while also demonstrating potential efficacy in supporting metabolic health and gastrointestinal function. The clinical results showed promising effects in different groups of subjects, including healthy individuals and patients with metabolic and gastrointestinal disorders.
From an industrial perspective, the project contributed to improving production processes and organic cultivation techniques, fostering innovation throughout the supply chain. ProBioEtica also strengthened technological capabilities and created new commercial and development opportunities in the nutraceutical sector, both nationally and internationally.
