AI-MEDICARD
Artificial Intelligence for MEDicine for Diabetes, Cardiology and Renal Disease – CARDiovascular Risk Prediction.
AI-MEDICARD is a Research project aimed at developing an integrated Artificial-Intelligence platform for the prediction of cardiovascular risk in patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). Scientific studies demonstrate a strong genetic susceptibility correlated with the increased risk of acute cardiovascular events in 9 subgroups of diabetic patients.
The project
AI-MEDICARD is a research project conceived with the aim of identifying innovative strategies for the prevention and treatment of type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and of the associated cardiovascular and renal complications.
Scientific studies demonstrate a strong genetic susceptibility correlated with the increased risk of acute cardiovascular events in 9 subgroups of diabetic patients. In this context, AI-MEDICARD integrates clinical, genetic, epigenetic, laboratory and diagnostic and imaging data to develop advanced models of predictive medicine and personalised medicine. The project activities involve the use of advanced diagnostic tools, such as ECG, state-of-the-art echocardiography and the analysis of innovative biomarkers, with the aim of creating Artificial-Intelligence-based predictive algorithms for the prediction of acute cardiovascular events.
The platform involves the use of Machine Learning algorithms capable of collecting, processing and visualising data from various clinical sources through intelligent dashboards and Clinical Decision Support systems able to support the physician.
Results
The main expected results of the AI-MEDICARD project include the creation of an innovative Digital Health platform and of Machine Learning-based predictive algorithms for cardiovascular risk stratification in T2DM patients.
Significant results are also expected in terms of the development of personalised-medicine tools, the reduction of cardiovascular complications and hospitalisations and the improvement of the quality of healthcare.
The software platform will enable more effective management of diagnostic and therapeutic pathways through intelligent dashboards and advanced clinical-support systems.
The project has the potential to generate significant technological and industrial advancements in the field of Digital Health, promoting technology transfer, innovation in clinical processes, and the reduction of healthcare costs for the National Health Service.
